BIOGRAPHY OF SVETOZAR VUJIĆ
Concert Double Bass Musician
Svetozar Vujić was born in 1965 and a native of Bor, Serbia. He began learning to play double bass at the age of 15. Six short months later, he recorded for a TV arrangement of Boccherini's Quintet. Svetozar performed Saint San's The Animal Carnival with his high school orchestra, in 1983. He and his late uncle, composer A. S. Vujić founded the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra, The Simfonietta in 1987 and is currently the director of the orchestra. From 1991 to 1994 he was a Music Professor at the Vojislav Vuckovic Music School, teaching Double Bass. Also in 1991 he joined The National Theatre Orchestra as an orchestra member. With music from the famed composer K.D. von Dittersdorf, he debuted a concert with The National Theatre in 1993. In 1994 he was appointed the leader of the double bass section in The National Theatre Orchestra. At the time of the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, he performed Bottesinni's Concert for Double Bass and Orchestra No. 2, h-moll, accompanied by the orchestra Yugoslavia Army Symphony. In the year 2000, for the first time, he performed and conducted the same concert. A year later, Svetozar took part in a tour of recitals, one of which was a live recording, supported by the Swiss Foundation for Culture, Pro Helvetia. This CD is intended for use in libraries, primarily for music students to gain a better insight into contemporary music of the 20th century.
Svetozar Vujic performs recitals, concerts with orchestras and concerts of chamber, symphonic, theatre and opera music. His repertoire encompasses pieces from Renaissance to contemporary music, as well as composed pieces dedicated to him. He furthered his musical studies by taking advanced training with Professors Posta, Stoll and Posh. In 1990 he took part in an international competition in Geneva and in Munich in '91. He has successfully recorded over 20 CDs in his career. Svetozar is a Music Professor at the Stannislav Binicki Music School, teaching Double Bass and Orchestra. Mr. Vujic has performed in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Japan, Greece and other countries. He plays accompanied orchestras such as Simfonietta in Belgrade, St. George's King Strings, Nis Symphonic, Yugoslavia Army Symphony and The National Theatre.
